Aston Martin's Bond with 007 Movies

Kuala Lumpur: Throughout the Bond series, James Bond has been provided with an enormous fleet of cars and vehicles that helped him to battle his enemies. 'Q Branch' is a division of British Secret Service which provides equipment to field operatives and has even given Bond a wide variety of modified vehicles. The cars which have been showcased in this series are not any ordinary cars but also features various modifications like expensive weapons system, anti-pursuit systems, alternative transportation and what not.

As time has progressed, the technology installed by Q-branch has also made a progression. Earlier, Bond used to fight off the villains using oil spills and smoke screens but now he has been employing the latest adaptive camouflage, mobile remote control and GPS navigation in his cars. Many automakers were lucky enough to get a chance to star in James Bond series, but one particular automaker which has always been linked to Bond's luxurious collection is the British manufacturer Aston Martin. From the oldest Aston Martin DB5 to its latest addition Aston Martin DB9 GT, it has come a long way. Going through the memory lane, let's have a look at all the Aston Martins that Bond has ever driven, rode in, chased or was chased by.

Aston Martin DB5

This car is considered to be one of the most recognizable and famous cars in cinema history. It has been featured in six of the bond films including Goldfinger, Thunderball, GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, Casino Royale and the latest Skyfall. It came with the usual Q branch refinements including bulletproof front and rear panels, oil slick, smoke screen, machine guns, rotating licence plates, telescoping tire slashers, tracer receiving console and most famous passenger ejector seat.

Aston Martin DB Mark III

Another Aston Martin which starred in 'Goldfinger' is the DB Mark III. This car was specifically designed for racing, which is why it was unlikely that Bond would drive it. This sports car was sold by the automaker from 1957 until 1959. In the movie, it showcased a lot of features like switches to alter the type of colour of the front and rear lights, reinforced steel bumpers, a colt .45 pistol in a trick compartment under the driver's seat. This car turned out to be the only vehicle to be mentioned in the original Bond novels

Aston Martin DBS

This car featured in four scenes of 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'. Talking about the bond features, it was equipped with a telescopic rifle within the glove compartment but lacked bulletproof windows. Aston Martin DBS played a key part in the film as it was used for Bond's introduction as well as for the film's shocking ending where Bond's wife is assassinated through the windshield. This is where we could make out that it lacked bulletproof windows.

Aston Martin V12 Vanquish

This car is considered to be the Bond's most complete vehicle from a gadgetry standpoint. Featured in 'Die Another Day', it was also dubbed as 'Vanish' due to its ability to become invisible to the naked eye. The features to fight off villains included side skis, spiked tires, missiles, hubcap-mounted lasers, rocket propulsion and a self-destruct mechanism.

Aston Martin DB9 GT Bond Edition

This latest addition to the fleet of Bond's car would be featured in next 007 movie named 'Spectre'. Based on the recently launched DB9 GT, it would be made available as a limited edition of 150 units. Under the hood, it would be powered by a 6-litre V12 engine which would make it the most powerful DB9 till date. This special edition has been wrapped in Spectre Silver paint and has got sterling silver Aston Martin badges on the front and rear end.
