2021 Kia Carnival revealed, features SUV-inspired looks

KUALA LUMPUR: Minivans are a great way of moving families and their stuff, that’s why Kia Carnival makes a smart choice. With its upcoming iteration, Kia brings in a stronger and more stylish people-mover. After teasing a few days back, 2021 Kia Carnival makes its virtual debut today, though a full rundown of its features is yet to come.

The new Carnival is based on the platform architecture borrowed from the latest Kia Sorento Dubbed as ‘Grand Utility Vehicle’ by Kia designers, it attempts to shed the van image with a few SUV-inspired styling touches. The rounded, soft lines of the MPV are replaced by more angular lines and a squared-off stance. In the front, there is a signature ‘tiger-nose’ grille with an intricate diamond pattern, integrating with sharp high-tech headlamps with the slim low beam clusters. With chrome finishing, the lower air intake, and a faux skid plate add to the SUV-inspired look of the vehicle.

Some other notable modifications are shorter overhang and a longer bonnet that shifts the A-pillar backward. The rear profile of the GUV has been adorned by LED taillights connected through a large LED light bar. The new Kia Carnival is likely to be a bit longer and wider than the current model, though actual dimensions are not yet confirmed.

Till now, the interior of the new Carnival is under wraps. Though, it is expected to come with a newly-designed dashboard housing infotainment system and digital instrument panel. Most of the other features are likely to be carry from the existing version, such as dual sunroof, multiple seating configurations, and more.

Under the hood, the minivan might get a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder producing 281 PS of maximum power and 421 Nm of torque or the latest version of the 2.2-litre diesel unit. Moreover, a 1.6-litre petrol hybrid powertrain can also be seen.

The all-new Kia Carnival will go on sale in Korea in the third quarter of the year. In Malaysia, it is only expected to come by 2022.
