2022 Volkswagen Amarok W580X debuts in Australia

KUALA LUMPUR: Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Australia introduced the all-new Amarok W580X pickup truck in association with the country’s local tuning firm Walkinshaw. The new truck not only looks macho but it is also more road-focused with improved ground clearance and better off-road tyres. Volkswagen will produce the new Amarok W580X in a limited quantity, although the final number has not yet been determined.

The new Amarok version benefits from a suspension lift kit for extra ground clearance and 18-inch forged wheels shod with all-terrain Pirelli Scorpion tyres. Also, parts of the kit are a snorkel, bespoke bash plates, rock sliders, upgraded twin-tube dampers, and an LED light bar for underbody protection. The VW and Walkinshaw also tweaked the truck’s exterior a little bit, Included in the changes are a redesigned front grille, and black -coloured mirrors, and rear bumper.

The new Amarok W580X equipment pack comprises bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, a multi-function steering wheel with paddle shifters, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, rubber floor mats, tyre pressure monitoring system, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system paired with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and satellite navigation. Velour upholstery with Walkinshaw badge is also part of the kit.

Under the bonnet, the new Volkswagen Amarok W580X is fitted with a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 diesel engine that is capable of generating a maximum power output of 255 hp and a peak torque of 580 Nm. Transmitting the power to the pickup’s four wheels is an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The new 2022 Volkswagen Amarok W580X will hit the Australian showrooms next year in April. It will go neck-to-neck with the Nissan Navara Pro-4X Warrior, Toyota Hilux Rugged X, and Ford Ranger Raptor. The automaker is yet to announce the Amarok W580X price; the expectations hover around a tag of AUD 80,000 (approx RM 248,797) before on-road costs.
