
KUALA LUMPUR: Last year, Volkswagen revealed its plan of dropping the Passat from the U.S. lineup and now, it officially announced the deadline. The German automaker will stop selling the midsize sedan with 2022 model year and the part of the Chattanooga plant where the sedan was used to assemble will be transformed for building the Volkswagen electric cars. But before that, the company rolled out the 2022 Volkswagen Passat Limited Edition model as a nod to the role played by the sedan in resurging the brand in the U.S. market.
“We’ve sold some version of the Passat for nearly 50 years, and the Passat launched our relationship with Chattanooga, which supports thousands of jobs,” said Scott Keogh, President, and CEO, Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.
Volkswagen will build a total of 1,973 special edition Passat, the number refers to the sedan's debut year in Germany. It will come in four unique color combinations, with the number of each paying homage to an aspect of the vehicle’s history. These include:
Besides, the limited-edition Volkswagen Passat boasts classic touches inside and out that differentiate it from the rest of the trims. These comprise LED headlights with the Advanced Front-lighting System, fifteen-spoke 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with black mirror caps, and an Easy Open trunk. The special touches inside the cabin include unique seat tags featuring “1 of 1973” on one side and “Chattanooga 2011” on the other.
