2024 Kia Sorento on display at Los Angeles Auto Show

KUALA LUMPUR: At the ongoing Los Angeles Auto Show 2023, Kia has put up on display the new Sorento facelift. The US-spec model of the mid-size three-row SUV features refined exterior styling, an upmarket premium interior with next-gen technology, and a new X-Pro variant promising more thrilling outdoor excursions. 

The all-new 2024 Kia Sorento facelift may land in Malaysia sometime next year, but before that let’s inspect the US model in detail. 

• The new Sorento adopts Kia's "Opposites United" design philosophy with "Bold for Nature" concept
• It has a sleek and modern aesthetic with a broad and rectangular front grille, vertically stacked LED projector headlamps, new daytime running lights, and redesigned vertical tail lamps
• The constellation-inspired Star Map lighting elements add a futuristic touch to both the front and rear while a wider skid plate garnish enhances its rugged appeal

• Designed for outdoor aficionados, the Sorento X-Line and X-Pro models come with an extra dose of rugged flair
• The X-Line features a unique gloss-black front grille, a center-locking differential, bridge-type roof rack, X-Line front and rear bumpers with a molded-in skid plate garnish, and 20-inch gloss black wheels

• The X-Pro, on the other hand, comes with 17-inch wheels, a larger tire sidewall for BF Goodrich all-terrain tires, and an increased towing capacity of up to 4,000 lbs
• The interior is kitted with dual 12.3-inch screens (panoramic panel with 4.3-inch TFT and 12.3-inch screen) and next-gen technology including an ultramodern Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) operating system with over-the-air updates, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and an ultrawideband-based Digital Key 2.0 system

• Parts of the ADAS pack are - Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist Lane Following Assist, Highway Driving Assist 2, and more
• The US-spec Kia Sorento is currently offered in two petrol engine options, with hybrid and plug-in hybrid options slated to be available next year

• The gasoline powertrains include - a 2.5-litre GDI inline-4 generating 191 hp of maximum power and 245 Nm of peak torque and a 2.5-litre TGDI engine which is good for making 281 hp and 422 Nm. The former is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission while the latter is hooked to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission
• The SUV is available in both front-wheel and all-wheel drivetrain options

The new Kia Sorento is expected to hit US dealerships in the first quarter of 2024.
