It will be based on the Triton ladder-frame chassis

Mitsubishi has confirmed that the reborn Pajero will be based on the ladder-frame platform of the Triton pickup truck. The ladder-frame architecture is said to offer more strength and durability than monocoque construction, and is preferred for genuine 4WD capability.

It will have the iconic ‘Triple Metre’ off-road displays

One of the most nostalgic features that is set to make its return with the new Pajero is the ‘Triple Metre’ system. While the earlier models had additional gauges to display altitude, vehicle dynamics and compass direction, the upcoming model will have a fully digital setup capable of showcasing a wide array of information, including pitch and roll angles, altitude, compass heading, ambient temperature, and left-right torque distribution.

The modernised system will be a useful tool for off-roading, helping drivers monitor changing road conditions in real time.

It is likely to feature a more rugged look than ever

While the automaker has not revealed the full exterior design of the new Pajero, teaser images and reports suggest the model will feature a more muscular, upright stance. We can expect boxy SUV proportions, a large front grille, wide wheel arches, high ground clearance, and chunky bumpers.

    It may get a 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine

Under the hood, the next-gen Mitsubishi Pajero may get a 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine generating a maximum power of 204 PS, paired with the brand’s Super Select II four-wheel drive system.

However, with stricter emissions regulations worldwide, an electrified drivetrain setup could also be on the cards.

With the new Pajero's teaser campaign in full swing, more details are likely to be released in the coming weeks, ahead of its world premiere.
