350 unit limited, 2022 Honda NSX Type S teased

KUALA LUMPUR: It was six years back, in 2015, when Honda launched the second-gen NSX. Back then a hotter version with ‘Type R’ badge was rumoured to follow in the future. Now, Honda has confirmed a high-performance NSX version, but instead of a ‘Type R’ badge, it will carry a ‘Type S’ tagging.

Note, that it is not the first time that the NSX is getting a ‘Type S’ title, as back in the late 90’s the original NSX had a similar variant.

What to expect from the upcoming 2022 Honda NSX Type S model?

The new model will benefit from a number of improvements, ensuring the driver and the passengers have an exciting time on the road. It’ll get - three electric motors giving it all-wheel traction, a carbon fibre floor, the world’s first nine-speed dual-clutch transmission, and much more. The teaser of the new model shows a more aggressive rear diffuser, new five-spoke wheel design, Type S badging, and new matte finish.

In Honda’s own words, “the NSX Type S raises the already impressive performance of Honda’s cutting-edge electrified supercar to new levels, delivering more power, quicker acceleration, sharper handling and a more emotional driving experience.”

Full details about the 2022 Honda NSX Type S are not available at the moment, however, we expect the company to release the information along with the car’s debut on 12th August, during the Monterey Car Week.

Also, this Honda won’t be around for long. The 2022 model year has been confirmed by the maker’s as the NSX’s final take and therefore it’ll use Honda’s iconic Type S emblem. Earlier, the automaker has used the Type S badging in Civic, to represent a power bump while retaining the car’s powertrain. So, expect an improved version of the ongoing 3.5-litre twin-turbo hybrid V6 engine and Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system.

Only 350 units of the NSX Type S will be built by Honda at its Performance Manufacturing Centre in Ohio. Out of which 300 units are destined for the American market, the remaining 50 will be shipped in other global markets. Thus, making the 2022 NSX Type S model the first NSX going on sale outside Japan.

Not to forget, the 2022 NSX Type S is even rarer than the NSX-R, as Honda built 483 units of the latter.

2022 Honda NSX Type S order books will open in the United States on 12th August. At this time we expect Honda to release more information about its supercar.
