2022 Honda HR-V e:HEV details are out, debut this year

KUALA LUMPUR: Honda unveiled the bigger and sleeker version of the HR-V back in February and now the Japanese automaker is all set to roll its hybrid iteration. It has confirmed the mechanical details of the 2022 HR-V e:HEV, which is expected to hit the Old Continent later this year. 

Under the metal skin, the upcoming Honda HR-V Hybrid will carry the same i-MMD hybrid set-up that is available with the Honda City RS and Jazz. The setup consists of a 1.5-litre i-VTEC atkinson-cycle engine, two electric motors and a CVT automatic gearbox. The first motor powers the SUV along with the gasoline mill, while the other is mated to the engine to act as a generator for battery charging. 

Combinedly, the setup produces a maximum power of 131 hp and a peak torque of 253 Nm of torque. These numbers enable the SUV to run from zero t0 100 kmph in 10.6 seconds. Honda further confirmed that the hybrid setup draws out a combined 5.4 litres per 100 km fuel economy on the WLTP combined cycle while emitting CO2 emissions of 122 grams per kilometre.

The automaker also revealed that the Honda HR-V hybrid trim will have three power delivery modes - Electric Drive, Hybrid Drive, and Engine Drive. The powertrain will automatically switch between these to maximize the car’s efficiency. Honda added that the transfer between them will not be virtually noticeable to the passengers on board. 

In addition, the SUV has three driving modes for the driver to select from. These are Econ, Normal, and Sport. The first mode automatically adjusts the throttle response and AC in favour of better fuel economy. For a sportier throttle response, the driver can choose the Sport mode and for a balance between the two, the Normal model can opt.

As mentioned earlier, Honda will launch the new HR-V Hybrid in Europe this year, we hope the automaker soon brings it to the local market as well.
