Exterior
The new ID. Buzz has a boxy shape with short overhangs. It is longer than the two-row Buzz, with a length of 4,962 mm and a wheelbase of 2,988 mm. The width and height remain unchanged at 1,978 mm and 1,895 mm, respectively.
The design features retro elements inspired by the original version but with a modern twist. Among the key highlights are - an illuminated VW logo, LED headlights, dual power-sliding rear doors with Easy Open and Close, power-folding and heated side mirrors, a power tailgate, illuminated door handles, a roof spoiler, full-width tail light bar, and 20-inch wheels.
Interior
The interior of the new electric van can be configured in two different seating configurations - 6-seater (2-2-2 with captain seats for the second row) and 7-seater (2-3-2 with a 60:40 split bench in the second row). Also new is a massive panoramic roof that is made of ‘Smart Glass’. It can be darkened at just a tap of a button.
With an overall theme of neo-retro, the cabin features the following tech goodies -
- 5.3-inch driver information display
- 12.9-inch central infotainment screen
- 12-way power driver and passenger seats with dual armrests, ventilation, massage, and memory functions
- Climatronic automatic climate control with dedicated air vents for all three row
- ID. Light system light bar
- IQ.DRIVE Level 2 driver assistance systems
Powertrain
Volkswagen offers the new ID. Buzz LWB in two powertrain options -
- A single motor RWD setup delivering 286 PS (82 PS more than SWB)
- A dual-motor AWD setup capable of generating 335 PS
The motors are now fed by a larger 85 kWh battery pack (replacing the two-row ID. Buzz’s 77 kWh unit), which promises a higher driving range. However, the exact range figure is yet to be revealed.
“The zero-direct emission ID. Buzz is the spiritual reincarnation of the Microbus, reimagined for our electric future,” said Pablo Di Si, President and CEO of Volkswagen of America, Inc. “It is practical, sustainable, and packaged in an unmistakably fun way that is classic Volkswagen. With its launch, the Bus will once again become our brand hero in America.”
