No V12 for the Aston Martin DBX, will get a mild-hybrid 3.0L straight-six instead
KUALA LUMPUR: It is now quite some time since the SUV and crossover segment is on the rise in the automobile space around the globe. And, to make hay whilst the sun shines, Aston Martin has also entered the battlefield with its all-new DBX. While the world is busy welcoming the Aston Martin DBX, the first-ever SUV by the British automobile manufacturer, we are here to introduce you to a piece of news that is not too good.

So, what the bad news then? As we have been hearing from various sources and rumours, there won't be any V12 under the hood of the Aston Marton DBX. Unfortunately, since the automaker's 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged twelve-cylinder motor features outboard turbochargers,
the engine bay of the DBX is way too small for the chunky powerhouse to fit inside of it. Instead, there is the Mercedes-AMG 4.0-litre Biturbo V8 that has its features cylinder bank mounted turbochargers. Aston Martin has re-tuned the engine so that it produces enough power to propel the large SUV. The new power figures read 550 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 700 Nm.

Since a large engine is now a cancelled plan, what else will make its way to space under the hood of the Aston Martin DBX? Neil Hughes, the senior manager of global product management disclosed that a smaller 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six mild hybrid from the Mercedes-Benz's facilities will be heading over to the Aston Martin DBX.
Also known as the M256 engine, we have already seen this motor powering the likes of the E 53, CLS 53, GLE 53, and GT 53. The power figures read 435 PS of maximum power output and 520 Nm of peak torque. Moreover, the integrated starter/generator is capable of delivering 22 PS and 250 Nm while accelerating.

Given that the Aston Martin DBX has been designed in a way that it is ready to accommodate electrified powertrains, we might soon see the automaker releasing hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully-electric models in the near future.
