Audi Q4 e-tron's hi-tech cabin revealed ahead of debut
KUALA LUMPUR: As part of its electrification strategy, Audi has planned to roll out several models with electric drive systems and one of them is the Q4 e-tron, which is based on Volkswagen’s MEB platform. The electric SUV is expected to make a global debut later this month, but before that here we have its interior in front of us. Audi has treated the auto enthusiasts with an official tour of the e-tron’s lavish cabin. So, let’s see what it offers.
Starting with the biggest highlight, that’s an augmented reality head-up display with an effective preview area of 70 inches. The same tech is also available in the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The system uses multiple cameras, sensors, and safety systems, and the display project markers onto the windshield, indicating lanes, distance, and directions. However, the system will be an optional feature.
As standard, the upcoming Q4 e-tron features a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel controlled with a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel. Instead of knobs and buttons, the steering wheel has touch-sensitive buttons with haptic feedback. There is no individual display for climate controls; rather it uses a physical panel like the one seen on the e-tron GT.
At the centre of the dashboard sits a 10.1-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. Audi will also be offering an optional 11.6-inch touchscreen later this year, which is said to be the largest display ever offered by the brand. The system is also mated to Audi's natural-language voice control system that can be activated by saying, "Hey Audi".
Coming to the seats, Audi will offer multiple packages and options on this front. The colour schemes include black, brown, grey, and beige. Customers can choose between basic or sport seats along with the lumbar support and heated/ventilated optional functions. The upholstery made from recycled materials such as PET bottles will also be available on demand.
In terms of boot space, the electric SUV will have 520 litres of the boot, that is around 85 litres less than the full-sized e-tron SUV and 23 litres less than a Volkswagen ID.4.
Set to arrive in two versions - e-tron and e-tron Sportback, Audi’s new EV will lock horns against the upcoming BMW iX1 and Mercedes-Benz EQB and EQA.
