BYD enters ride-hailing segment with sub-brand Linghui, e9 EV leads the lineup

KUALA LUMPUR: BYD recently introduced a new sub-brand for the Chinese market, named Linghui, which focuses on the ride-hailing and corporate mobility segments. While the official details have yet to be released, China’s MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) has released information about the first Linghui model, as reported by CarNewsChina.

    Linghui e9 EV: What we know so far

    • The Linghui e9 measures 4995 mm in length, 1910 mm in width, and 1495 mm in height and spans a wheelbase of 2920 mm.
    • At its core lies a single electric motor mounted at the front, which churns out a maximum power of 181 hp in the standard form and 201 hp in a higher-tuned version.
    • Feeding the e-motor is a 60.5 kWh and 64.315 kWh BYD Blade lithium iron phosphate battery pack, offering a cruising range of up to 535 km and 605 km, respectively.

    • The Linghui e9 is a striking sedan reminiscent of the BYD Han model, with a large front grille integrating a chrome-plated dot-matrix mesh layout. Edging the grille from both sides are sharp, split headlights.
    • The rear boasts a continuous tail light design with red reflectors on the bumper. It runs on 18-inch front and 19-inch rear black-finished alloy wheels wrapped with 245/50 R18 and 245/45 R19 tyres. 
    • No information is yet available on the interior design and features of the Linghui e9.

    With a vision of “redefining mobility through technological innovation,” Linghui focuses on the public transportation market, including taxis, ride-hailing services, leasing companies, and government vehicles. It will have its own identity and operate through its independent sales channels. Its range will comprise cost-efficient cars, including Linghui e5, Linghui e7, Linghui e9, and Linghui M9, based on BYD’s existing models.
