BYD Seal 08 revealed in China with Blade Battery 2.0; targets 1000 km range

KUALA LUMPUR: The BYD Seal 08 has made its official debut in the Chinese market ahead of the launch slated for later this year. It is one of the “Ocean 8 Series Dual Flagship” models the automaker teased last month and is built on an 800V high-voltage platform integrating the brand’s latest advancements. 

Here’s what we know so far about the new BYD electric sedan.

BYD Seal 08: What do we know so far 

Sleek fastback styling

Expected to sit at the top of the brand’s electric sedan lineup, the BYD Seal 08 retains the design language of the Ocean-S concept car. It features a sleek and dynamic front design with a closed-off grille and slender headlights, and air ducts on the bumper. The rear has a fastback silhouette and embodies the “ocean aesthetic" with striking tail lights and flowing wave lines. The EV also features a LiDAR sensor on the roof, indicating the inclusion of BYD’s God’s Eye ADAS pack. 

The BYD Seal 08 measures 5,150 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,505 mm in height and spans a wheelbase of 3,030 mm.

Advanced chassis technologies 

In terms of advanced chassis technologies, the sedan gets a rear-wheel steering system for enhanced manoeuvrability and DiSus-A intelligent body control system for improved ride comfort. 

Blade Battery 2.0: Aiming for 1,000 km driving range

At the core of the latest BYD EV lies the second-generation Blade Battery pack, which offers improved energy density and charging performance, enabling the EV to offer significantly longer driving range while maintaining safety and durability. Packed with this latest battery unit, the Seal 08 is expected to offer an all-electric range of more than 1000 km, putting it among the longest-range EVs in the world.

As for the output numbers, the AWD variant is likely to deliver 644 PS of maximum power and a 0-100 kmph acceleration time of less than 5 seconds.

Megawatt flash charging: 400 km in just 5 minutes

The upcoming BYD Seal 08 supports megawatt flash charging technology, allowing the battery to replenish 400 km of range in 5 minutes.

The BYD Seal 08 flagship sedan is slated to launch in China in the second quarter of this year, alongside the Sealion 08 flagship SUV.
