Cupra Formentor unveils as the brand’s first exclusive SUV

KUALA LUMPUR: Cupra, the performance division of Spanish marque SEAT has unveiled its first exclusive coupe-style SUV, the Cupra Formentor. It’s their first-ever model which is developed exclusively for the Spanish sub-brand. The model is likely to feature the conventional internal combustion engine model as well as the hybrid technology version.

Cupra is highly acclaimed for its performance and the Formentor model is likely to be a great combination of SUV practicalities and performance benchmarks.

“The Cupra Formentor is destined to make Cupra an even more relevant brand in the market. With captivating design and high-performance powertrains, including a plug-in hybrid, the Cupra Formentor will be a big step for Cupra. It will clearly show the potential of the brand,” said a very delighted, Cupra CEO, Wayne Griffiths.

Since the model is available in both variants, customers will be able to choose between a 2.0-liter TSI variant with a 305 hp or PHEV model with 148 hp (305 HP) or a PHEV model with a 148 hp 1.4-liter TSI unit and a 113 hp electric motor. Additionally, both the options set a seven-speed DSG transmission. 

However, on the downside, one can drive the Formentor in electric-only mode with a range of up to 50 kilometres.

 For mentor comes with a two-tone exterior and reasonably compact dimensions. It measures 4,450 mm in length, 1,839 mm in width, stands 1,511 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,680 mm. The trunk volume capacitates to 450 litres. This coupe-SUV also brags with full-width tail-lights. Riding on 19-inch alloy wheels, the exterior appearance of the model is very stylish and masculine.

Designers have also given various color options to the customers to choose from. The palliate of colors include Urban Silver, Midnight Black, Magnetic Tech and Candy White. All metallic, three special paints in Graphene Grey, Dark Camouflage and Desire Red and also two matte options in Petrol Blue Matte and Magnetic Tech Matte.

As you get inside the car, bucket seats in petrol blue and black leather, will catch all your attention. Seats are low mounted to provide additional comfort and give sports feel. Certain trim pieces are coated with aluminium and brushed with the copper coat.

A 12-inch touchscreen enhances the beauty of the dashboard with all ubiquitous features like wireless Apple CarPlay, plug-in Android Auto, and voice and gesture control. Other tech features include the four USB-C ports, an embedded SIM card, plus driver assistance technologies such as Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control, which also make the model entirely tech-friendly and adaptive. 

Full LED wraparound ambient lighting adorns the elegance of the model which also flashes yellow light when blind spot detection or exit assist gets activated. A customizable digital gauge cluster is also placed in the car.

This Spanish piece of style also comes with Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC), which constantly monitors the road surface and driver inputs, making proactive changes to the setup and offer a more inclusive drive. Available profiles of the DCC include Comfort, Sport, Cupra, and Individual.

Prices are yet to be confirmed by the automaker, but the Formentor will commence deliveries in the last quarter of 2020, primarily in Europe. We can only anticipate if Cupra plans to consider Malaysia for the launch of this exclusive model.
