Daihatsu joins car recalls in faulty Takta airbag case

Kuala Lumpur: Daihatsu is the recent corporation which joins in other big names as Toyota and Honda in the Takata airbag recall. The mini-car automaker has confirmed that it will be recalling 260,000 vehicles in accordance to the issue and also confirms that all the models affected are within Japanese auto market only.

This is the second recall issue in one week after issues raised by Toyota and Nissan on Wednesday, in accordance to which a total amount of 6.5 million drives were recalled successfully and also involves 4.89 million drives which Honda, the recall of which was confirmed just yesterday.

After Honda's recall it was discovered that a grand amount of 1.67 million units contained faulty airbag inflators on driver's side while 3.22 million remaining cars of the recall contained a front side airbag which turned out problematic. When it comes to Honda, the company will be replacing its driver-side inflators manufactured by Takata with ones which are manufactured by Autoliv and Daicel, while the passenger airbags will be replaced by Daciel and Takata new airbags. Daihatsu, within all this is now replacing Takata inflators with new airbags from Takata itself.

As mentioned in an earlier story, Honda Malaysia had earlier recalled 15,734 models manufactured between 2003 and 2004 which includes Honda City and Jazz manufactured in that time frame. Now, the rough estimated of a total number of vehicles effected by faulty Takata airbags stands at 36 million, 19.6 million vehicles of which are from Honda's arsenal alone.
