Dongfeng Malaysia previews Voyah Dream, M Hero II and Dongfeng 008 at KLIMS 2026

KUALA LUMPUR:  Dongfeng Malaysia used KLIMS 2026 as the stage to show off three models that could potentially make their way to the local market -- the Voyah Dream MPV, M Hero II off-road SUV, and the Dongfeng 008 SUV.

None of the three are on sale here yet, but this is the first time all of them have been shown publicly in Malaysia.

Voyah Dream: the premium MPV play

The Voyah Dream is Dongfeng's flagship MPV, and it's pitched squarely at the executive and family end of the market. It comes in both PHEV and full EV forms internationally, with the PHEV version offering a combined range of up to 1,500 km -- which is a significant number if it carries over to Malaysian spec.

Inside, you get seven seats, and the focus is clearly on cabin comfort and tech rather than anything particularly driver-focused. Think more Land Cruiser Zenix than Alphard in terms of who it's aimed at, though pricing and availability in Malaysia remain unknown for now.

M Hero II: big power, big range, big price tag (probably)

The M Hero II is the wild card of the three. It's a PHEV off-roader running a 1.5-litre turbo engine with dual electric motors, producing a combined 687 hp. Combined range is quoted at up to 1,300 km. It's positioned as a luxury off-road SUV -- think along the lines of a Tank 500 Hi4-T or even a Mercedes-Benz G-Class PHEV rival, at least in intent.

Intelligent 4WD and multiple terrain modes are part of the package, and the design is unmistakably large and imposing. Whether the M Hero II makes financial sense for Malaysia against established names in the segment is another question entirely.

Dongfeng 008: the straightforward electric SUV

Rounding out the trio is the Dongfeng 008, a large electric SUV with a 200 kW motor and up to 636 km of claimed range. It's the more conventional option of the three -- aimed at buyers who want a spacious EV SUV without the extreme luxury or off-road pretensions of the other two.

Notable features include an in-car refrigerator and what Dongfeng describes as immersive entertainment, which suggests the cabin tech is a big selling point. Competition in this space in Malaysia is already heating up, with the BYD Sealion 7, Chery Tiggo 9 and others occupying similar ground.

No prices, no launch dates

To be clear, Dongfeng Malaysia hasn't confirmed pricing, launch timelines, or even which variants would come to Malaysia for any of the three models. This is a preview, not a launch. Whether all three make it here -- and when -- is still an open question.

What's worth watching is Dongfeng's broader Malaysia push. The brand is actively recruiting dealer partners and expanding its retail and service network, with plans for more showrooms and service centres across the country.

They've committed to supporting new partners with showroom setup, training, and after-sales infrastructure, which suggests a serious long-term play rather than a passive market entry.
