Experimental Safety Vehicle introduced by Mercedes-Benz
KUALA LUMPUR: Time and again, Mercedes-Benz has been introducing the Experimental Safety Vehicle (ESV) that showcases innovative systems to deal with the problem of road accidents. Doing the same in 2019, here another concept throwing more light on safety techs and ideas. There is a whole team of engineers, experts, and researchers dedicated to the process.
The concept car in question is based on the new Mercedes-Benz GLE and showcases a few safety systems that are good to go for production release. However, there are a few techs that we expect to get introduced well into the future. A plug-in hybrid motor powers the 2019 EVS and the company claims it to be capable of automated driving in different scenarios. The car will be put on display at the ESV convention that'll take place in June this year at Eindhoven. Also, at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, Mercedes is expected to host the ESVs public premiere.
Ola Kallenius, Member of the Daimler AG Executive Board, Mercedes-Benz Cars Development, said "Safety is part of the brand DNA of Mercedes-Benz. We have repeatedly demonstrated that we are not short of ideas in this field since the 1970s, with our Experimental Safety Vehicles. The new ESF 2019 reflects the mobility of the future and presents a wide variety of innovations which we are currently researching and developing. And I can already say this much: some of the functions are very close to series production."
Here's a list of most prominent safety features found in the Merc's new ESV -
- New steering and pedal cluster that automatically retracts on automated mode, it reduced injury at the time of the crash
- High-performance safety seat belt
- Driver airbag relocated to the dashboard
- Vitalising cabin lights fitted in the sun visors to maintain body's biological rhythm
- Digital Light system to communicate with motorists and pedestrians
- LED's at strategic locations
- Rear airbags
- Pre-Safe Child system
- i-Size standard -ECE R129 checklist for proper installation of the child seat
- Automatically emerging warning triangle at the rear and on the roof during an accident
Sounds intriguing, right? Well, we'll have to wait till June when the Mercedes's new ESV makes its first appearance.
