FCA expands its Coronavirus (COVID-19) relief measures

KUALA LUMPUR: Fiat Chrysler Automobile has implemented several relief measures to help various national health services in the countries where it is operational. The company is assisting the governments of these nations to combat the deadly COVID-19 virus.

Among its several measures is the conversion of one of its plants to manufacture face marks that’ll be donated to healthcare workers and frontliners. The company has reported that the first machinery for the purpose has been installed, and the supply of the face masks will start in the coming weeks.

Besides, FCA is also contributing to the relief fund by way of providing food to children until school returns to session. This is done by working alongside several non-profit organisations.

The company said, ‘Starting immediately, FCA will help provide more than 1 million meals to school-age children in the communities around our principal manufacturing plants in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. The program will then be extended nationwide in the US and to Canada and Mexico, supporting similar relief efforts for kids who would normally access school meal service.”

FCA is not limiting its relief measures to this but is expanding it to logistical, technical, and manufacturing programs.

Mike Manley, the FCA CEO, said, “There has never been a more important moment to help children and their families with vital needs in our communities than during this time of great uncertainty’”

FCA is also building personal protective equipment and medical equipment with the help of its in-house engineering and logistics team in Italy.

Prior to all this, FCA, along with its subsidiaries sourced and purchased a total of 150 ventilators and other medical equipment, all of which have been transported to Italy.

Meanwhile, the Italian multi-industry business dynasty earlier this month made a massive donation of EUR 10 million to the Italian Civil Protection Department and La Stampa to help them respond to the local health and social needs in Turin and Piedmont.
