First production version of 2020 Toyota GR Supra sold at the charity auction

KUALA LUMPUR: The very first production model of the 2020 Toyota GR Supra has been auctioned off at the 48th annual Barrett-Jackson Auction show in Scottsdale, USA. As decided earlier by the company, the whole hammer price of the car has been donated to the American Heart Association and the Bob Woodruff Foundation. However, the name of the winning bidder has not been announced yet.

The Barrett-Jackson authority has posted the news on Twitter and also revealed that the winning bid for the car is USD 2.1 million (roughly RM 8.68 million). The same announcement has also been confirmed by Toyota. Bob Carter, EVP of sales at Toyota Motors North America said that this event had marked the return of GR Supra. He also added that this sports car would boost up the enthusiasm among the owners.

The auctioned model of the Toyota GR Supra is designated as Global #1 because it is the first unit of the production line. The car gets a unique VIN, i.e., 20201, to mark the year of its reintroduction. The exterior of the vehicle comes in Matte Grey color and features Matte Black wheels and red mirror caps. It also gets a signature plate from the CEO of the company, Akio Toyoda. Inside the cabin, the new Supra flaunts red interior theme and carbon-fibre trims.

As for the winner of the auction, the person received a few other complimentary things with the vehicle. The winner got VIP passes to the NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing). Other things included in the goody bag are a helmet and suit, race shoes, and gloves. Interestingly, all of these items were used during the final testing of the car.

Speaking about the two organisations the money is donated to, the American Heart Association works to fight against heart diseases while the Bob Woodruff Foundation helps to advocate future programs for veterans and their families.
