Ford conducts Driving Skills for Life programme in Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur: Ford Motor Company's 'Driving Skills for Life' (DSFL) campaign has again made a return in Malaysia eighth year in a row. This program contains a series of workshops which aim at making our roads a safer place by educating drivers with safe driving techniques. This half-day workshop was conducted free of charge at the Taylor's University Lakeside Campus in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
The figures provided by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety (MIROS) show that an average of 18 people are killed on country's roads everyday, and this figure is expected to rise to 29 by the year 2020. According to the World Health Organization's Global Status Report on Road Safety, Malaysia's road accidents per 1,00,000 population are one of the highest among the ASEAN countries.
David Westerman, managing director, Asia Pacific Emerging Markets, Ford Motor Company said- “Driving Skills for life is designed to equip people with the skills they need to be better, safe drivers. Road safety is a very serious issue, and we feel it is our responsibility to help reinforce this message among Malaysian motorists, especially young drivers.” He further added- “As a global company with an established presence in Malaysia, we are committed in our efforts to instill road safety awareness amongst drivers to help reduce the number of road fatalities, making the roads safer for drivers, motorists and pedestrians.”
DSFL training includes both theoretical classroom training as well as a practical hands-on driving session. It aims at educating drivers with the skills that would help them to reduce the number of fatalities and injuries by avoiding accidents. DSFL is Ford's flagship global Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme which apart from Malaysia, would also be provided in China, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and Philippines.
