Ford Mondeo Hybrid wagon coming in 2019

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ford Mondeo Hybrid lineup is already on sale in the European countries. However, the company has now officially announced that it will be introducing the wagon body version of the hybrid cars in 2019, along with the facelift.

The Vice President of Sales and Service of Ford’s European Marketing, Roelant de Waard, has said that most of the customers prefer the practicality that an estate car has on offer. Hence, offering the big body vehicle with the hybrid mechanism would also help them reduce their expense without compromising on the sophistication.

The Ford Mondeo Hybrid wagon will be targeted at the customers who carry a lot of cargo luggage while benefiting from the efficiency of the electric powertrain. Being developed primarily for the European market, it will be available in many trim levels, including the top Vignale.

Roelant de Waard even said that the electric models will continue to be the main focus for the European markets. Hence, the company will be investing $11 billion (USD) and also plans to deliver 16 full-electric vehicles in an international portfolio of 40 electric models within 2022.

Mechanically, the Ford Mondeo Hybrid wagon will have the same engine as the sedan model. This means, there is the same four-cylinder 2.0-litre Atkinson that would be mated to another 1.4 kWh Li-ion battery powered motor behind the rear wheel. The battery can be charged via the generator or the regenerative brakes.

The combined power production of the two engines holds up at a good 187 PS. Plus, the hybrid system brings in the efficiency of just a little under 23 kmpl. There would be certain other features in the Ford Mondeo Hybrid as well, including the vacuum pump, water pump, air conditioner compressor and a controller for the inverter system.
