Formula One : Top 5 overtakes in last five years!
Kuala Lumpur: Sit back and fasten your seat belts F1 fans, as Formula One has officially released the five best overtakes of the past five years. These were picked out on the ground of various polls conducted at Formula One's live Twitter feed.
5 – Alonso on Massa and Webber The first one actually ranked fifth comes to us from 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix in Interlagos, where we can see Fernando Alonso pipping Felipe Massa and Mark Webber in a single flip of steering. It all happens on the wide stretch of straight Grand Stand, and Alonso is behind both of them. Webber is seen struggling with Massa and slips to the corner alongside him, but Alonso, who is behind them, takes a tow of the moment and hums speedingly past them.
4 – Raikkonen Overtakes Schumacher 2012 Belgium Gran Prix at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps witnessed another awestruck moment when Kimi Raikkonen overtakes Michael Schumacher in the flick of a switch. Raikkonen drives smoothly through the first corner and is right in Schumacher’s slipstream. One pull towards left blazes him past the world acclaimed German race driver.
3 – Vettel Goes Wheel to Wheel with Alonso Then we come to the racing mogul Sebastian Vettel who is acclaimed across the globe for his F1 skills and winning a plethora of titles for his team Ferrari. Vettel does a classic switchback manoeuvre through the Luffield corner at the 2014 Great Britain Grand Prix in Silverstone. Alonso grabs the moment and comes wheel to wheel along the tight line going into Luffield, but runs wide, and Vettel grabs the opportunity to dive into the inside. Alonso tries to pin Vettel towards off track, but Vettel persists and eventually brakes really late into Copse letting loose.
2 – Masa Squeezes Senna Felipe Massa being fortuitous at the 2012 Singapore Grand Prix pins Senna, between turn 16 and turn 17. Massa sticks behind Bruno Senna for long, and despite Senna squeezing him into the next corner, Massa presses the gas in a quick motion and sneaks past Senna. It was the serendipity of the moment that Senna didn't close the gap completely and Massa took his chance.
1 – Sparring Partners: Webber and Alonso It was the winning overtake, as voted by the official twitter poll being the real keeper. It all happened at the 2011 Belgium Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso was just out of his pits when Mark Webber approached him at rapid revolutions. Alonso flicks his steering to left, as a defending move. But Mark Webber took nothing of this warning. Webber pulls out of Alonso’s slipstream and they sticked to each other and enters the Eau Rogue. Fortunately, Alonso backs out and Webber pulls through. However this formidable move by the Australian racer compelled F1 fans to poll for it.
