KUALA LUMPUR: After selling 1,247,116 vehicles in the year 2017, Geely, the Chinese automaker has broken all of its previous records by trading 1,500,838 units in 2018. This rise in the sales numbers is a huge 20.3% of positive change.
Without a surprise, the SUV segment is leading the sales charts. Out of the 1.5 million cars Geely Auto sold, 857,922 units were SUVs only. These SUVs count for 57% of the totals sales. Now you know why automakers are focusing more and more on SUVs. Among the SUVs traded by the Chinese manufacturer, the top-selling car was the Boyue, of which Geely sold as many as 255,695 units. As a matter of fact, the Geely Boyue is the very SUV which has been used as a foundation for the Proton X70. Thus, the X70 already has the ingredients of a successful SUV, doesn’t it? It can further be known by the fact that more than 650,000 units of the Boyue SUV have been sold till date.
Other vehicles which contributed to the magnificent sales numbers include Emgrand GS (157,638 units), X3 SUV (116,944 cars), and the Vision SUV (113,309 units). Bin Yue, the first ever crossover by Geely which is based on the BMA architecture was launched in October 2018. In a matter of 3 months, 23,361 units of the Bin Yue were sold in China. Talking about other segments, the Emgrand in the sedan department came on top with 246,933 sales. Other sedans from the manufacturer like Vision and Emgrand GL were sold in huge numbers 143,851 and 148,531, respectively.
Geely also managed to sell 44,299 units of its flagship Bo Rui GE Sedan. Moreover, 33,084 units of Bin Rui, the first sedan based on the BMA architecture were also sold in just 4 months after its launch. Lynk & Co, the premium brand in China by Geely also racked up 120,414 sales in 2018. The brand also crossed the mark of 10,000 trades for 6 consecutive months. The three models by Lynk & Co, namely 01, 02, and 03 contributed with 89405, 21751, and 9258 sales respectively in the year 2018.
Geely claims that the reason behind the success has been the importance given to the market demand as well as customer experience. All the processes, starting from the development of a vehicle to the purchase of a car and then the after-sales service was taken care of. The Chinese carmaker is also very cheerful about the fact that around 51% of the customers it gained were born either in or after the 1990s.
An Cong Hui, the group president and CEO at Geely Auto said, “In the new year, Geely Auto will continue being focused on the market, pay close attention to user demands, and increase our market share in China and globally. Geely will fully tap into the potential of our whole ecosystem, strengthen our capability to develop sustainably, and create high-quality, high-tech, and high-value products for our users”.
