Geely forms the largest car mosaic, grabs Guinness World Record

KUALA LUMPUR: Just in time for the Chinese New Year, Chinese automaker Geely has registered itself in the Guinness Book of World Records. Thinking, how the new year and the record connected? Well, Geely created the 'Largest Car Mosaic' - a huge ox head from over 700 Emgrand cars. The entire formation was created in 30 hours wherein the dark-coloured cars were used to form the ox's head and the white ones make the background.

As per the traditional Chinese calendar, 12th Feb 2021 marks the first day of the Chinese New Year and the Chinese Spring Festival. The mosaic represents an ox which is this year's zodiac.

Key highlights of the world's largest car mosaic -

- The said mosaic was organized by Geely China's Emgrand Official Clubs

- The mosaic was spread across 7,070.26 square meters

- A total of 750 Geely Emgrand were used, some in dark and others in white colour

Obviously, there were a few guidelines that were required to be followed. For instance, the mosaic should form a recognizable pattern that when viewed from above instantly strikes a bell. Next, no two cars should be 20 centimeters apart and a minimum of 300 square meters of the area should be covered.

The Emgrand is the brand’s longest-running and one of the best-selling models. It recently benefited from a comprehensive upgrade that includes a revised exterior styling (new grille, smart LED headlights, waterfall style tail lights), refined interior (electronically adjustable seats, ultra-large boot, GKUI Geely Smart Ecosystem, HD instrument panel, heuristic infotainment panel), enhanced safety (six multi-direction airbags, parking radar, HD dashboard camera) and powerful 1.5L naturally-aspirated mill.

On a slightly similar note, Porsche Taycan in 2019 set a Guinness World Record for the longest EV drift - 42.171 km, driven by Dennis Retera. The session lasted for a total of 55 minutes with an average speed of 46 kmph.
