Goo Warranty for used cars launched, 1-year/25,000 km coverage on certified used vehicles

Kuala Lumpur: PROTO Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (PROTO), Car Credo Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (Car Credo), and Opal Auto Mart Sdn. Bhd. (Opal) have joined hands together to provide a unique peace of mind to the used car owners in Malaysia. The trio has officially introduced Goo Warranty at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) yesterday which will be available at the Malaysian used car market from January 2016. The aftermarket warranty scheme will provide used car buyers with powertrain coverage on vehicles certified by the Goo Kantei inspection service.

The Goo Warranty will offer the used cars buyers with a peace of mind as they will avoid costly bills to repair or replace parts during the first 12 months after purchasing their vehicle. The services will be available from January starting in the Klang Valley area and the warranty covers powertrain components including the engine, transmission, engine control unit (ECU) and transmission control unit (TCU) for up to 12 months or 25,000 km, whichever comes first. The warranty will mainly be applicable for only the certified vehicles and the private-registered vehicles up to eight years old with a mileage of up to 100,000 km will be eligible for the warranty.

Kenya Ikutsu, Managing Director of PROTO Malaysia, said: “This new offering is a further development by PROTO to bring new products and services to the Malaysian automobile market. We wish to use our knowledge and experience as a contribution to upgrade the local auto industry, particularly in the area of the used car business.”

To get the benefits of the Goo warranty, the owner must send the vehicle to the Goo Kantei first. Car Credo has been offering Goo KANTEI services since September 2015 and these services are for the inspection and evaluation of used vehicles. At the Goo KANTEI workshops, the car will undergo a thorough inspection covering a maximum of 344 points around the vehicle’s structure, bodywork and engine. The results will be described on a form and the car will then receive rating accordingly, the inspection is certified by the Japan Automobile Appraisal Association (JAAA). After registering under the warranty, the user can claim its services by Opal and its 124 authorised panel workshops nationwide.

David Lee, Chief Operating Officer of Opal Auto Mart said, “Today, we are also witnessing a service agreement partnership between Car Credo and Opal to deploy Goo Kantei as part of Opal’s vehicle inspection requirements.” He added that Opal, one of the leading auto warranty providers in Malaysia, will take advantage of its nationwide workshop network (currently 124 authorized panel workshops in Peninsular Malaysia) to support Goo Warranty. Goo Warranty is underwritten by a well-established and reputable insurance company so as to retain financial stability.

Despite being a biotech professional, Sanchit Agarwal's daydreams of driving a Ferrari and chasing cars in a Grand Prix made him jump into automotive journalism. His childhood craving for the cars started with Hot wheels toys which led him to create pseudo cars on his own. When people loved playing outdoor sports, Sanchit was stuck to his racing video games hidden in a closet. The torque of his creative writing coupled with his passion for moving machines pushed him into Carbay's garage. Sanchit also wonders's, why is he writing this as a third person.
