GWM Malaysia to launch the Ora Good Cat EV in Q4 2022

KUALA LUMPUR: After establishing its footprint in Thailand, the Chinese automaker GWM now enters Malaysia. The company has recently established its Malaysian subsidiary that goes with the name Great Wall Motor (GWM) Sales Malaysia Sdn Bhd or Great Wall Motor Malaysia. In conjunction with that, the auto giant also previewed its highly-awaited small EV, the Ora Good Cat.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • When will the Ora Good Cat launch in Malaysia?

The Ora Good Cat launch in Malaysia will happen in the fourth quarter of 2022.
  • What is the driving range of the Ora Good Cat?

Expected to be equipped with either a 47.8 kWh or 63.1 kWh battery pack, the Ora Good Cat is likely to offer a driving range of 400 km and 500 km, respectively.
  • While the exact details of the Malaysian-spec version are not yet revealed, the reports suggest a similar pack available in the Thai market. So, as per that, the Goot Cat EV will be equipped with a single electric motor positioned on the front axle generating a maximum power of 143 hp and a peak torque of 210 Nm. The motor will come mated to a 47.8 kWh or 63.1 kWh battery pack, offering an estimated driving range of 400 km and 500 km, respectively.

As for charging, the EV is expected to take 40 minutes to charge from 30% to 80% with the help of a 60kW DC fast charger.

Based on the company’s latest Lemon EV platform, the Ora Good Cat measures 4.235 mm in length, 1.825 mm in width, 1,596 mm in height, and spans a wheelbase of 2,650 mm. With these compact dimensions, the Chinese EV is likely to offer similar practicaolity as the best-selling Perodua Myvi.

Design-wise, the retro-styled electric car looks somewhat like the Porsche 911. It may be because Emanuel Derta, who designed the Chinese EV, is a former Porsche designer.

In terms of features, the car is likely to get LED headlights and tail lights, 17-inch wheels, a Panoramic moonroof, 7.0-inch driver’s instrument display, 10.25-inch infotainment unit, fabric seats (faux leather seats with higher trims), Automatic air-conditioning, connected vehicle features, smart voice assistant, and a full advanced driver assistance suite.

The Ora Good Cat launch in Malaysia will happen in the fourth quarter of 2022. Initially, it would be fully imported from China followed by the local assembly in Gurun, Kedah, in association with Go Auto Group at a later stage.
