Honda Civic Type R Spotted on Honda Malaysia's FB Page; Hints Towards a Malaysian Launch

Kuala Lumpur: Last week, Honda Malaysia released an image of the Honda Civic Type R on its Facebook page. The image was taken from the September issue of 'With Dreams' customer newsletter which pointed towards the new turbocharged hot hatch. The 36th volume of this newsletter had a two-page article highlighting the main features of the latest Honda Civic Type R.

Although nothing was mentioned about its launch in Malaysia, but the fact that Honda Malaysia chose to feature this car in the newsletter hinted towards their intentions to introduce the Civic Type R in Malaysia. The latest Civic Type R has already made a debut at this year's Geneva Motor Show which was held in March. Under the hood, this hot hatch is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged VTEC engine which churns out a maximum power of 310 PS at 6500 rpm along with a peak torque of 400 Nm at 2500 to 4500 rpm. Further, it is mated to a six-speed manual transmission which sends power to its front wheels. From a position of halt, it reaches an acceleration of 100 kmph in just 5.7 seconds and clocks a top speed of 269 kmph. Moreover, a +R button is also provided which if pressed, kills the Idle Stop system, reduces electric power steering assistance, provides more torque lower down, stiffens the adaptive dampers by 30% and loosens the Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) safety net.

The front end of this car is dominated by a large bumper coupled to a monster of a rear wing. This large bumper along with a mesh-type layout helps to draw as much air as possible into the intercooler. While an almost-flat underbody and a rear diffuser help to generate additional downforce. It also boasts of widened wheel arches to accommodate the increased track width, both front and rear.

If Civic Type R comes to Malaysia, it would definitely be the king of hot hatch in town.
