Honda Malaysia appoints a new managing director & CEO

KUALA LUMPUR: Toichi Ishiyama has been replaced by Madoka Chujo as Honda Malaysia’s new managing director and CEO. Mr Ishiyama held the office for three and a half years and in his reign, the automaker achieved a lot and introduced several models. He’ll now take on a new role in the Business Automobile, Business Strategy Division at Honda Japan. Before we discuss the successor, let’s first have a look at the past.

As mentioned earlier, during Ishiyama’s tenure Honda Malaysia introduced many models like the 5th generation Honda City, Civic Type R, City RS e:HEV. His list of achievements is equally lengthy and includes -

• In 2019, Honda Malaysia hit the 900,000 sales milestone
• In March 2020, the automaker reached the 1 millionth sales mark
• In 2020, Honda Malaysia for the sixth consecutive year maintained its position as the No.1 non-nation car brand

Coming back to Honda Malaysia’s new CEO and Managing Director, Madoka Chujo. She took on the new responsibility on April 1. She is a known name in Honda, as her career started in the company 23 years ago in 1997. Over the years she has taken up several roles in the company’s offices around Japan, Canada, China, and Spain. Sales strategy is her area of interest and with all the experience gained over the year’s Chujo looks forward to putting all that treasured knowledge to use in Honda Malaysia.

On joining the office, Chujo said, “Malaysia is indeed an important market in the Asia and Oceania region with Honda Malaysia achieving various significant sales milestones and have become one of the leading automotive brands in the country.” She further added, “I am looking forward and excited for my first assignment as the MD and CEO of Honda Malaysia, and at the same time I am also eager to explore Malaysia, as the country is unique and a melting pot of diverse cultures and people, with enormous potential and of course a fast-paced work environment.”

Before taking the role of Honda Malaysia Managing Director and CEO, Chujo was the Vice-President of Honda Canada wherein she strategized the automaker’s sales and marketing from 2019.
