Video: Indycar driver Justin Wilson dies in car crash
“It's not just about getting on the podium, it's about how you drive to get there” – Need for Speed
Race enthusiasts went into a deep shock when they witnessed the death of world renowned IndyCar racer Justin Wilson. Who passed away after sustaining a head injury at Sunday's ABC Supply 500 at Pocono Raceway. The sudden news of his demise was passed on by the IndyCar which was followed by a statement from his family earlier today. According to the reports, the deadly incident took place when, Wilson's head was struck by debris that had come loose from a separate car. This impact made his car crash into an interior wall, causing fatal injuries to his head. Wilson was immediately airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment after the accident.
Justin Wilson, a British driver was also a former Formula 1 racer, after which he decided to drain his talents in front of the US audience in 2003. He has great titles on his chest, mainly being the fifth finisher at the Indianapolis 500, and once he won the 24 Hours of Daytona as a driver for Michael Shank Racing. Wilson was racing for Andretti Autosport when he sustained the fatal head injury. A statement was passed down from the Andretti Autosport team, they called Wilson a tremendous racer and respected member of the team. "While Justin was only part of the Andretti lineup for a short time, it only took a second for him to forever become part of the Andretti family," the team added. "His life and racing career are a story of class and passion surpassed by none. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Wilson family and fans worldwide. Godspeed, JW."
Another IndyCar driver Ed Carpenter was present during the announcement, he called Justin “a friend of everyone" at the paddock. "Days like this are extremely hard on all of us," Carpenter said. "Justin was a great professional driver and was extremely good at his craft. Beyond that, he was a great guy. One of the few, if not the only, guys who really was a friend of everyone in the paddock. Everyone respected him for the way he carried himself."
IndyCar has a bad history of losing its precious lives, as Justin Wilson is the second racer in four years to lose his life on tracks, the last one was Dan Wheldon in 2011. Sadly, Wilson left behind his wife and two daughters. Racing is a dangerous sport, we all know, so no matter how many precautions a driver and his team take, there are always chances of fatalities. Nevertheless, it is always sad for us to share such news, Rest in Peace Justin Wilson – Godspeed!
