Mercedes-Benz CLS 250d to arrive in Malaysia, starting under RM500k

Kuala Lumpur: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has announced the arrival of its much awaited first new diesel-powered passenger car Mercedes-Benz CLS 250d. The car will be sold to the public in the near future joining the league of its sibling Mercedes-Benz CLS 400 which was introduced earlier in April this year. The all new CLS 250d will arrive in its facelifted W218 range, which is a more affordable entry into four-door coupé, but still one of the priciest sedans in Malaysia.

Currently, the CLS 400 is being sold in the country at around RM598,888 on-the-road without insurance, and the CLS 250d is expected to come in around RM100,000 less, slated to retail at RM500,000.

The CLS 250d owns a herculean power mill under its bonnet, a 2.1-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine which is the same unit placed in the E 300 BlueTEC Hybrid, minus the 20 kW electric motor. This mill is tuned to churn out a maximum power of 204 PS at 3,800 rpm and 500 Nm from 1,600 to 1,800 rpm, this turbodiesel engine is truly a torque booster which is equally distributed over the rear wheels owing to its seven-speed 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission.

The CLS 250d catapults itself from a standstill to a 100km/h clock in a mere time span of 7.2 seconds and continues to escalate until it hits an electronically calculated top speed of 242 km/h. Besides the powerful engines, the car also delivers decent fuel economy, Mercedes Benz's innovating fuel efficient technologies allows the car to cover 100 km in just 4.6-4.7 litres of fuel, with CO2 emissions rated as 122 grammes per kilometre.

MBM has not yet specified the kit list to be offered with this car, however looking over the CLS 400, we can anticipate that the CLS 250d might include a Multibeam LED headlights, a full AMG Line styling kit, 19-inch wheels, Steering Assist with Stop&Go Pilot for the Distronic Plus active cruise control, as well as a Surround View camera system.
