Mercedes-Benz SLC Unveiled Ahead of Detroit Debut

Kuala Lumpur: Ahead of its debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz SLC has been unveiled, which is a facelifted version of the SLK roadster. This updated car would be offered in two versions namely SLC300 and SLC43. The letter 'C' in SLC hints towards its association with the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Towards the front fascia, it features company's new radiator grille with diamond mesh and reworked headlamps with LED intelligent light system. Elsewhere, nothing new can be seen apart from the sleeker taillights. Further, this car rides on huge alloy wheels which range from 16-inch to 18-inch. Additionally, an AMG Line and Night Package is also provided which features a high-gloss black finishing along with sportier bumpers, side skirts, and wheels. Its roof mechanism is also updated and can be operated at a maximum speed of 40 kmph.

Inside, both the models of Mercedes-Benz SLC gets aluminum trim parts with a carbon-fiber finish. Further, a new sports steering wheel and a new instrument cluster can also be seen. The dashboard is integrated with a display screen that has increased from 5.8-inch to 7-inch. The leather upholstery of this car also gets some design tweaks along with new saddle brown and platinum white colours. With the Magic Sky Control option, the glass roof can be darkened or lightened according to exterior conditions.

Under the hood, it would be powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine which churns out a maximum power of 156 hp at 5300 rpm along with a peak torque of 250 Nm at 1200 to 4000 rpm. The SLC 200 gets a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine which is capable of delivering a maximum power of 184 hp at 5500 rpm along with 300 Nm of peak torque at 1200 to 400 rpm. Moving over, a better version of the 2.0-litre engine is fitted in SLC 300 which offers 245 hp at 5500 rpm and 370 Nm at 1300 to 4000 rpm. Finally, the sole 2.1-litre diesel engine is featured in the SLC 250 D model which churns out a maximum power of 204 hp at 3800 rpm along with a commanding torque of 500 Nm at 1600 to 1800 rpm. All these variants are further mated with a 9G-Tronic torque converter automatic gearbox.

As for safety features, this car is assisted with Active Brake Assist system which reduces a chance of rear-end collisions. In Spite of the warning lamp in the instrument cluster and audible alert, this system would automatically initiate the automatic braking as soon as it detects a risk of collision.
