Mercedes Benz upgrades the GLA, CLA and B-class
Kuala Lumpur: Mercedes-Benz has always surprised the world with new automotive technologies and features. It has always tried to come out of the shell and make its product lineup at par with latest inventions. The automaker has now proclaimed that it is ready to provide a modification to its CLA, GLA and B-class. From beginning of the next year, the models will also be made compatible with Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink. Apart from this, upgrades have been provided to the drive in many aspects, which we will discuss below.
Earlier, the facelifted Mercedes-Benz A class was blessed with the new kit, but now the other three models are also equipped with it. Firstly, the trio specified above would be integrated with an adaptive damping suspension and a Dynamic Select system which would allow the driver to switch between four driving modes- Comfort, Sport, Eco, Individual and an off-road option which is exclusively available for GLA. The drive system of these models would also get a new terminology. The suffix of the petrol models has been changed from 'CDI' abbreviation to 'd', the B-class electric drive would be called B 250 e while the natural gas variant would be known as B 200 c.
A new base model B 160 has been added to the B-class which feature a 1.6-litre 4 cylinder engine and delivers a maximum power of 102 PS and torque of 180 Nm. This engine enables the model to reach an acceleration of 100 kmph from the position of a halt in just 10.6 seconds along with a top speed clocked at 190 kmph. In an addition, a 1.5 litre A 180 d BlueEfficiency engine has also been added that develops a power of 109 PS and a torque of 260 Nm. This engine allows the car to run from 0-100 kmph in 11.6 seconds and attain a top speed of 189 kmph. Moreover, it also delivers a fuel efficiency of 3.6 litre/100 km.
Talking about the CLA, the M 270 DE 20 2.0-litre engine which is fitted in the 250 Sport and 250 Sport 4Matic variants would get a power hike like the facelifted A-class. Now it would be able to deliver a power of 218 PS instead of 211 PS while the torque would remain at 350 Nm. Moreover, the CLA Shooting Brake range would gain three new variants including CLA 180 d (109 PS and 260 Nm), CLA 200 d 4Matic (136 PS and 300 Nm) and CLA 220 d 4Matic (177 PS and 350Nm).
Finally, the GLA 220 d would receive an additional 7 PS from before, with the new power coming to 177 PS. It would enable this car to reach an acceleration of 0-100 kmph in just 7.7 seconds before hitting the top speed of 223 kmph. Apart from this, the GLA would now be integrated with a larger 7-inch colored screen, with a glossy front panel and a frame in silver shadow which was previously seen on 2015 CLA 200 recently introduced in Malaysia.
