Mitsubishi ASX VR-e EV debuts in Australia; launching later this year
KUALA LUMPUR: Last year, Mitsubishi and Foxconn signed a memorandum of understanding, under which a brand new EV model developed by Foxtron was to be supplied to the Japanese automaker and introduced in the Oceania region (Australia and New Zealand) in the second half of 2026. Well, as per the plans, here’s the Mitsubishi ASX VR-e in front of us.

The Mitsubishi ASX VR-e is expected to launch in Australia in the fourth quarter of this year.The Mitsubishi ASX VR-e is a SUV-cum-hatchback model based on the Foxtron Bria, which is ready to hit the Australian showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2026. The automaker has confirmed that the EV will be offered in LS, Aspire, Exceed and GSR trim levels.
Mitsubishi ASX VR-e EV: Key highlights
- While the vehicle is based on the Foxtron-developed platform, Mitsubishi’s vehicle has its own distinctive appearance.
- It features a modern SUV design and a clean aerodynamic profile with a closed-off front grille with an active grille shutter, an S-duct bonnet, and a full-width LED light bar. Adding to the visual appeal are sharp body lines, flush pop-out door handles and large alloy wheels.
- While no drivetrain details are disclosed yet, the Mitsubishi ASX VR-e is likely to get the same options as the Foxtron Bria. The latter is offered in RWD and AWD drivetrains in Taiwan.
- The RWD model generates a maximum power of 232 PS and a peak torque of 350 Nm, enabling the EV to run from zero to 100 kmph in 6.8 seconds. It is paired with a 57.7 kWh LFP battery that delivers a range of 516 km (NEDC).
- The dual-motor AWD variant, on the other hand, delivers a combined output of 407 PS and 700 Nm, allowing the vehicle to complete the century sprint in just 3.9 seconds. The same 57.5 kWh battery pack offers a range of 466 km here.
- As for charging, we can expect up to 134 kW of DC fast charging, juicing up 10 to 80% in less than 30 minutes.
- Inside, it is expected to get a clean horizontal dashboard, a four-spoke steering wheel, a digital driver display, a large infotainment unit, a glass roof, and wraparound ambient lighting.
- As for safety, the upcoming Mitsubishi EV is likely to get a comprehensive safety package, including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.
“ASX VR-e marks a significant milestone in our refreshed Mitsubishi range as the first BEV since the i-MiEV – Australia’s first mass-produced electric vehicle,” said Mitsubishi Motors Australia chief executive Shunichi Kihara.
“The new Mitsubishi ASX VR-e continues this path of innovation with an immersive infotainment system, bold design and excellent electric driving performance.”
