Mitsubishi Delica D:5 to be showcased at 2019 TAS
KUALA LUMPUR: Mitsubishi introduced the all-new Delica D:5 in Japan last month. The MPV is now making its way towards the upcoming 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon, where Mitsubishi will showcase its Urban Gear variant in a kitted up form.
The ‘Delica’ nameplate was originally introduced by the automaker back in 1968. Moreover, Malaysians are also familiar with the MPV, which had been present in the country until the mid-2000s in its fourth generation.
The brand-new Mitsubishi Delica D:5 is now in the sixth-generation as a promising tall-riding MPV. While the concept model was showcased last year, the production model made a debut in the Japanese market towards the end of November.
As for the performance, the Mitsubishi Delica D:5 gets a 2.2-litre DI-D turbodiesel engine. It is capable of churning out up to 170 hp of power and the peak torque is 392 Nm. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Delica is available in three driving modes - Two-wheel drive, Four-wheel-drive, and Lock. It uses AdBlue with Selective Catalytic Reduction technology that helps in decreasing the number of pollutants generated.
The Mitsubishi Delica D:5 adorns the manufacturer’s own Dynamic Shield front fascia. There are multi-LED headlights having four high and five low beams. A heavy-duty roof carrier is also available as an additional kit. The car that will be showcased at TAS gets red mudflaps along with side and rear guard bars. The door visors and rear spoiler complete the designing.
Inside the vehicle, there is a large 10.1-inch infotainment display on the dash. The air conditioning controls are mounted below the display. A drive mode selector makes it easy to switch the driving modes. The new Delica comes with six seats inside.
The Japanese people will also have the option of getting the Delica D:5 Urban Gear variant alongside the standard one.
