KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians are embracing electric mobility at a fast pace, with more than 20,000 Proton e.MAS EVs now on local roads. This milestone signifies the growing demand for sustainable mobility in the country.

“Surpassing the 20,000-unit milestone reflects the strong trust Malaysian customers have placed in Proton e.MAS. More importantly, it indicates a clear shift in Malaysia, where more drivers are embracing electrified mobility with confidence,” said Mr Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET.
Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV - Malaysia’s best-selling PHEV in 2026
Photo from Proton- The Proton e.MAS PHEV has played a key role in driving strong demand across the Proton e.MAS lineup. The plug-in hybrid SUV has emerged as the country’s best-selling PHEV year-to-date in 2026, with 1,755 units registered.
- Launched in early February, the electrified SUV has continued to gain momentum, recording more than 6,500 bookings within just a couple of months.
- Proton sold a total of 1,013 PHEVs in April this year, contributing to its cumulative year-to-date leadership in the PHEV segment.
“As our electric vehicle base continues to grow, it is equally important that we strengthen the ecosystem supporting our customers. Our focus remains on ensuring a reliable, seamless, and enjoyable ownership experience that builds long-term confidence in electrified mobility.” Mr Zhang Qiang added.
In response to increasing customer demand, Proton continues to scale its nationwide EV ecosystem, ensuring customers receive consistent support throughout the ownership journey. The automaker is working on expanding dealer coverage, strengthening aftersales capacity, and improving access to EV charging support across significant markets.
Currently, the Proton e.The MAS network comprises 53 dealer operations nationwide, supported by 10 body and paint centres, with 3S outlets expanding to approximately 40 locations.
By taking all these efforts, Proton aims to position e.MAS as Malaysia’s No.1 EV brand as part of its long-term electrification strategy.
