More details about Mercedes-Benz EQG revealed

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes has been working long and hard on its EV lineup, part of which is the recently launched EQE SUV, EQV 300, EQB 350, EQC 400, EQA, and EQS 450+. Now added to the automaker's global EV lineup is an electrified version of the G-Class.

The electrified G-Class production version was previewed a while back in the form of the Concept EQG. The details on the real-world EQG is scarce at the moment, however, comments from company officials paint a pretty good picture of the upcoming EV. For instance, Mercedes-Benz Group’s Chairman of the Board Management, Ola Kallenius, recently revealed the EQG to offer "phenomenal performance on and off the road” and said it would be ``easy to ride” and “competent”.

Here’s what we know about the upcoming Mercedes EQG -

• The Concept EQG was showcased with four e-motors, so the same is expected from the production version
• Each electric motor works independently and will be accompanied by a shiftable two-speed gearbox
• The EV will feature a specially designed rigid rear axle and an independent front suspension
• It will be able to take a 360-degree spin on its own axis
• Instead of the new EVA2 platform which underpinned most of the Mercedes EV, the EQG will ride on its own dedicated platform
• It will come with an optional silicon anode battery that would provide a 20 to 40 per cent boost in energy density
• The EV is expected to come with several powertrain and battery configurations

The upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQG is expected to arrive sometime in 2024. And like the G-Class, it is expected to become a popular model with high sales statistics.
