Proton receives 500 bookings per day for 2019 Saga
KUALA LUMPUR: The biggest news story last week was undoubtedly the launch of all-new 2019 Saga. The sedan made headlines by ditching the CVT for a conventional automatic transmission setup. Now, given the fact that for many years now the Saga is the bread and butter earner for the company, we were pretty curious to know how well the facelifted version performers amongst the potential buyers. All this despite the success of Proton’s very first SUV - the X70.
Cheng Seng Fook, Proton’s Director of Marketing did not reveal the exact booking figure received during the ongoing media test run. However, when asked about the same, he said the company is getting approx 500 bookings on a daily basis. Extrapolate that number and one would arrive at over 4000 bookings since the launch of the car last Tuesday.
Cheng further said the booking number is more than Proton’s production volume for the Saga sedan. He further said that waiting list won’t be an issue. He said, “Not all the orders can be converted [into sales>, especially for an entry-level car. The rule of thumb [within the industry> is that first-time buyers will generally find it difficult to get a loan,”
