Prototype of Malaysia’s flying car to be launched by the end of 2019

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s flying car is expected to launch by the end of this year, said Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof, Entrepreneur Development Minister of Malaysia. He confirmed this while responding to some questions in the parliament.

At the time of questioning, Khairy Jamaluddin asked, “Vision 2020 was introduced when I was 15 years old. We imagined there would be flying cars by then. I would like to congratulate the minister for being the only one to keep the promise of Vision 2020. I want to know, is there a date when we can see the minister riding the flying car?”

In reply to his question, the minister said that the prototype of the air mobility vehicle is under development and can be expected to take off by the end of 2019. Local companies sponsored the project, and it is led by the private sector. According to the reports, Redzuan told the parliament that the government would not face any losses if the project fails to work according to the plan. Adding to his statement, Cyberjaya had been selected to develop the industry of air mobility.

To a separate query from Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, Redzuan responded that the flying vehicle will reach Penang from Kuala Lumpur within an hour that is way faster than travelling by road, which takes almost four hours. In addition to that, the Malaysian flying car can fit two to three passengers without any issue.

A scale model of a flying vehicle prototype, named Vector, was displayed earlier in March at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace 2019 exhibition. Redzuan said, “The second version is using new technology, and we are discussing whether or not it’s possible, and if there is interest in the country, to have the inaugural flight by the third quarter of next year.” Moreover, the second version will be using a different technology from the first one.
