Skoda brings the all-new Kushaq to India at RM 58,580

KUALA LUMPUR: Skoda has finally kicked off its India 2.0 Project with the launch of the all-new Kushaq SUV in the world’s second populous country. The model is based on the company’s new MQB-A0-IN platform that also underpins the Volkswagen Taigun, a soon-to-launched model in India. Well, Skoda has not yet revealed its plan of rolling out the SUV in other countries, but there is no harm in knowing about this new hunk of the auto industry. So, let's get started.

The kia Seltos rival is offered in three variants - Active, Ambition, and Style with two turbo-petrol engines. First is a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine generating a maximum power output of 115 PS and a peak torque of 175 Nm. Another mill on offer is a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo unit good for making 150 PS and 250 Nm. For transmission, both mills have six-speed manual and automatic options to choose from. Besides, a six-speed torque converter for the smaller unit and a seven-speed DSG for the big one are also available.

Talking about the design, the new 2021 Skoda Kushaq has striking looks featuring a prominent butterfly grille on the front, which is flanked by sleek LED headlights integrated with L-shaped LED DRLs. Accentuating the SUV’s muscular stance are a meaty bumper, aggressive air dams, and 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. At the back, the C-shaped LED tail lights, a butch bumper, and a rear diffuser round off the looks.

Inside, Skoda packed the new Kushaq with all modern comfort and tech features including a 10-inch infotainment system with connected car technology, wireless smartphone charger, touch control panel for the Climatronic system, cruise control, ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, and a sunroof. However, the mentioned features vary according to the variant.

For safety, the SUV gets dual front airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, and electronic stability control as standard. On the higher trims, six airbags, a rear parking camera, multi-collision braking, and a tyre pressure monitoring system are also available.

The Skoda Kushaq price in India starts at Rs 10.50 lakhs (approximately equal to RM 58,580) while its deliveries are set to begin next month.
