Skoda Kushaq global debut scheduled for March 2021

KUALA LUMPUR: Skoda Kushaq is the production version of the company's Vision IN concept that was showcased last year at the India-based auto expo. We have been seeing the spy shots and teasers of the Kushaq for quite sometime now and its arrival has been in question for long. However, now with its arrival confirmed, we are highly excited to meet the car in person.

The Skoda Kushaq will underpin the VW Group's modern MQB-A0 platform which is both uniform and variable allowing it to be used by different vehicles.

On the design front, we expect the upcoming Skoda Kushaq to feature a rather muscular face - inspired by the Vision IN concept. The heavily camouflage versions and test mules of the upcoming SUV suggest the same.

We are yet to see the Kushaq's cabin images, however, it is expected to benefit from a well-laid, spacious interior. With a confirmed wheelbase of 2,651 mm, a decent amount of cabin and boot space is a sure thing. Further, Skoda Kushaq will feature a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, and panoramic sunroof.

Powering the Skoda Kushaq will be two petrol mills - both TSI turbocharged options. Included in the list is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder mill making a maximum power of 110 hp and the other being a 150 hp churning 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit. Both the engines will be paired by a 6-speed manual gearbox, on the automatic transmission front, however, the things differ. The 1.0L unit will get a six-speed torque converter and the latter a seven-speed DSG unit.

Like all the Skoda models, the Kushaq SUV will come loaded with amazing safety features. Like the segment first Electronic Stability Control, six airbags, ISOFIX, rain/light sensor, hill hold control, and tyre monitoring system.

On its arrival, the Skoda Kushaq will rival the contenders of the mid-size SUV segment. The vehicle will first be launched in India, followed by other ASEAN countries.
