Stellantis ups its carbon neutrality game; expands solar power generation at the plant

KUALA LUMPUR: Stellantis, one of the world’s leading multinational automotive manufacturers, has for a while committed its efforts towards carbon neutrality.

Now, enhancing its goal further is the company’s latest partnership with Leader Energy Group, a Malaysian-based power company with over 20 years of experience. Together the two will work on expanding the Gurun plant’s solar power generation. How? Installation, maintenance, operation, and financing of new solar photovoltaic systems will be installed on the facility’s roof. The said work will be benign after the completion of the ongoing on-site construction work.

Stellantis Head of ASEAN and General Distributors, Cirstophe Musy said, “Stellantis is focused on building sustainable and profitable business models in the markets where we operate. We are excited to work with partners like Leader Energy that help us contribute to the fight against climate change.”

He added, “This partnership is a positive step for the ASEAN region and will assist Stellantis in achieving its industry-leading target of carbon net zero by 2038, mapped out in the Dare Forward 2030 strategy,”

Also, to reach its 2038 global carbon net-zero emission target, Stellantis will be adopting a solar power system at the Gurun plant. The said system will generate up to 2,189.81 kW of electricity and over the course of 21 years, the figure will reach 54.811 GWh.

All these efforts will allow Stellantis to offset around 1,963.4 tonnes of carbon dioxide pear, which is equivalent to planting 50,340 trees annually.

It is great how companies are taking efforts toward environmental sustainability. What are your views on the subject, let us know in the comments.
