Volkswagen Ameo Primes for a Global Premiere at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo

Kuala Lumpur: The German carmaker Volkswagen (VW) is all geared up to unveil its subcompact four-metre sedan, the Volkswagen Ameo at the upcoming 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. This will mark the first global premiere of the German car on the Asian land. However, reports suggest that Volkswagen has designed Ameo specifically for the Indian car market just like the Honda has designed Amaze in the past.

Polo Sedan Front

Volkswagen does not sustain a decent market share in Malaysia but many cars of the brand like Polo Sedan, Golf and Jetta are widely popular among the Malaysian motorists. The German carmaker also boasts a huge selection of models to choose from in Malaysia. Thus, it might be possible that to augment its lineup even further. Volkswagen Malaysia can bring Ameo here but, it will be a CUB from India and I guess that won't fit the Malaysian standards. Therefore, the arrival of Volkswagen Ameo in Malaysia can not be expected anytime soon. Also, Volkswagen has announced that VW Ameo is a part of Govt. Of India's Make in India campaign, thus, the car is Made in India and Made For India. So, this completely nullifies its arrival in Malaysia for now.

The Volkswagen Ameo will be manufactured at VW's Chakan facility in Maharashtra, India. In India the car will go against the likes of Maruti Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest and Ford Figo Aspire, all are CKD in India and are mainly developed for Indian markets only. The Ameo will come around a price of Rs 5 Lakhs (RM 31K) to around Rs 8.3 Lakhs (RM 52K) in India, that is sedan less than a hatchback from Perodua here.

According to an official statement released by Volkswagen, the word Ameo has been derived from the Latin word 'Amo', which means 'I Love. A Volkswagen spokesperson also said that “ By marking its entry into the dynamic compact sedan space, the Volkswagen Ameo is expected to be a game-changer for the brand in India.”

His childhood craving for the cars started with Hot wheels toys which led him to create pseudo cars on his own. When people loved playing outdoor sports, Sanchit was stuck to his racing video games hidden in a closet. The torque of his creative writing coupled with his passion for moving machines pushed him into Carbay's garage. Sanchit also wonders's, why is he writing this as a third person.
