With 458kmph, Koenigsegg Agera RS sets a new top speed record

KUALA LUMPUR: The top speed recorded by any production car has recently seen a new figure clocked by Koenigsegg Agera RS. Yes, the production version of Koenigsegg Agera RS has managed to hit a top speed of 458 kmph in one pass. It is the same car which surpassed the speed records of Bugatti Chiron 0-400-0 kmph last month.

For setting a new record, a 17.7 km stretch of 160 km long Nevada, USA highway was blocked by local authorities. This ensured that the factory-spec Agera RS has more than required room to achieve the top speed. It was 434 kmph mark that the Koenigsegg Agera RS required to surpass to beat the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport record set back in 2010 and Agera RS managed to achieve an average top speed of 444.6 kmph. The record was further verified by Racelogic.

In order to comply with the Guinness’ World Record requirements, the run needed to be completed twice. In one direction, the top speed was clocked 458 kmph while in the opposite direction it was around 436.44 kmph due to uphill gradient and a strong headwind. Although most of the automakers use special tyres to achieve such figures, the Swedish automaker used the standard Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres.

As the Koenigsegg Agera RS has overshadowed Bugatti and Hennessey’s top speed records, these two manufacturers might come up with their improved models to regain the title. Hennessey has already introduced its Venom F5 which is expected to clock a top speed of 484 kmph. Let’s see when the Venom F5 hits the track to beat the newly set record by Agera RS.
