2019 Yamaha YZF R3 and R25 premiered

KUALA LUMPUR: Yamaha has come up with a great way to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the legendary YZF-R1, that is, by introducing the 2019 model of two of its smaller siblings, the R25 and the R3. However, for the people here in Malaysia, the former (R25) is a bigger reason to cheer as the R3 isn’t here in the country and the updated model is for other markets, like Europe and the US.

And though there is a host of updates in the new model, the mechanism remains the same. There is the same two-cylinder, 250 cc engine with eight valves that make a maximum power of 35.5 PS at a whopping 12,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 22.6 Nm, which comes at 10,000 rpm.

There are many changes made on the physical appearance of the 2019 R25, especially the body works, which now adopts a more aerodynamic frame. The bodyworks are similar to the one used in the YZF-R1 and have a reduced drag coefficient of 0.323, which was 0.347 earlier. As a result, the bike can now hit a better top speed, higher by 8 kmph.

The 2019 Yamaha YZF-R25 is suspended over upside-down forks up front that is not adjustable. The dry kerb weight is the same as the current model, that is, 166 kilograms. There is a full LCD display that provides a lot of information. The dual predator headlamps and the sporty split seats find its way too.

As for the braking, there are Hydraulic disc brakes at both ends where the front has dual piston while the rear has just the one-piston setup. The brakes can be had with an anti-lock braking system as an option too. Since the company hasn’t said anything on the fuel tank capacity, we can assume it to be the same 12.3 litres.

Three colour options will be available for the 2019 Yamaha YZF-R25, that are, Matte Black, Matte Red and Racing Blue.
