2021 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R launched in Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR: Late last year, Kawasaki unveiled the upgraded version of its flagship supersport, the Ninja ZX-10R, in the global market. The new superbike is sharper, faster, and more technologically advanced than ever. While we are still waiting for its launch, our neighbour Indonesia has just received it at a price tag of IDR 520,000,000 (equivalent to RM 150,329). In comparison, the old model retails for RM 98,934 in Malaysia.

Adding to the styling revision of the bike is a redesigned front fascia with aerodynamic winglets on the upper cowl and a sharper-looking headlight. The bike also features a revised handlebar and footpeg position which lend it a more aggressive stance. On the rear, a new tail cowl, and a Kawasaki River Mark round off the looks. Colour options include three single-tone choices - Lime Green, Ebony, and Blizzard White.

In terms of features, the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R specs sheet includes full-LED lighting, a Bluetooth-enabled 4.3-inch TFT colour instrument panel, and a number of driving aids. The latter comprises traction control, cruise control, power modes, cornering management system, launch control, different riding modes, engine brake control, and a bi-directional quick-shifter.

At the heart of the ZX-10R resides a reworked 998-cc, in-line four-popper, liquid-cooled engine that complies with the Euro5 emission standards. The engine generates a maximum power output of 200 bhp at 13,200 rpm and a peak torque of 114 Nm at 11,400rpm. The power is channelled to the wheels via a six-speed gearbox. Added to the mechanical changes are reworked gear ratios, a new oil cooler, a revised exhaust system, and electronic throttle valves.

Kawasaki also revised the bike’s chassis, the new unit features a 1 mm lowered swingarm pivot point and an 8 mm longer swingarm, leading to better performance and handling. As for suspension, it gets a Showa Balance Free fork at the front and a mono-shock at the rear.
