BMW M4 Competition

Here in the BMW M4 Competition, the overall cabin layout has been shared with that of the M3, which itself is inspired and is a one-step up from the layout of the 3-Series sedan. The cabin has got traditional BMW elements like a trapezoidal-shaped centre console and infotainment system but gets a host of sporty touches to justify the M branding of the car. 

The cabin of the M4 Competition is draped in leather, which has got a variety of colour combinations and trim levels to choose from. There are carbon fibre touches on the M leather steering wheel and paddle shifters. The car offers you a proper racing car feel with its M Carbon bucket seats, which get integrated headrests and cut-outs.

Other major highlights of this cabin include coloured head-up display, single pane electric sunroof, 16-speaker Harman Kardon music system, six-colour ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, three-zone automatic climate control, wireless charging, wi-fi hotspot, full TFT instrument console with Driving Assistant Professional, multi-functional steering wheel and touchscreen infotainment system with controls for M Drive Professional.

BMW shook a lot of minds when it unveiled this M4 Competition for the first time to the world. The sports coupe has a very distinctive-looking front fascia, which gets the largest ever dual kidney grille in a vertically stretched out fashion. The overall layout of this grille might look a bit out of place for some people, however, the rest of the car looks very sleek and sporty.

Apart from the grille, the BMW M4 Competition gets sleek wing-like horizontally stretched headlamps, which here are full Laser units. The aggressive and sharp-looking air dams and passages recessed in the front bumper make the car look very edgy when viewed head-on.

The BMW M4 Competition looks strikingly different from its four-door version, the M3 when viewed from the sides. The two-door look and traditional coupe stance with sloping roofline make it look sporty and elegant at the same time. The rest of the design of the side profile looks simple, with an air dam present in the front fender. For the M4, BMW has made a couple of 20-inch M forged alloy wheels to choose from.

The rear profile of the BMW M4 Competition, like the front end, has been shared with that of the M3. The sleek tail lamp units get Jaguar-like LED inserts with a lower hump in between. To instill that much-needed flavor of sportiness, BMW has added an M carbon exterior package, which includes carbon fibre touches on the front bumper, exterior rearview mirror, front fender air passages, rear spoiler, and rear bumper diffuser. The rear bumper gets a quad exhaust pipe setup, with dual ports on either side.

The BMW M4 Competition has always been a fine driver’s car, and in this generation too, the car manages to retain that title with additional driving aids making the overall experience even more thrilling. The car features an adaptive M suspension that dampens the suspension setup according to the drive mode you select, between COMFORT, SPORT, and SPORT+. The car is also bestowed with M Race Track package, which includes M Carbon ceramic brake, M Driver’s package, and M Sport exhaust system with different exhaust notes for SPORT and SPORT+ modes. The M steering wheel of the M4 Competition has controls for adjusting DSC mode, engine and suspension setups, and steering and braking characteristics.

The only engine and gearbox combination on offer with the BMW M4 Competition is a 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine coupled to an 8-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission. This powertrain combination is a straight lift-off from the M3 sedan, and just like in it, the engine in the M4 Competition also makes 510 bhp of maximum power and 650 Nm of maximum torque.

For safety, apart from the essentials like airbags all around and ABS with EBD and brake assist, the BMW M4 Competition gets a range of driving assistance aids like lane keep assist, front collision warning with brake intervention, evasion assist, junction warning with brake intervention, front crossing traffic warning and Parking Assistant Plus with a 360-degree camera and active park distance control.

There is no dearth of modernity and finesse in the mechanicals of the BMW M4 Competition. Leaving the subjective front-end styling aside, which might appeal to some or be a turn-off for others, the M4 Competition is a complete driver’s car with loads of equipment and sporty design elements.
