  • About Nissan Malaysia

    Nissan Malaysia is one of the country’s most versatile automotive manufacturers with sedans, crossovers, pickups, MPVs, SUVs, and even electric & hybrid cars in its kit. It even offers two commercial vehicles that are said to do the job assigned. Today, Nissan maintains 98 sales outlets and authorised dealerships across Malaysia, supported by 91 service centres and several body & paint outlets. In the J.D. Power 2018 Malaysia Sales Satisfaction Index, which is an analysis of new car purchases and delivers experience, Nissan attained #1 spot. 

    In Malaysia, Nissan began its journey in the 1950s with Tan Chong Motors as its distributor. In 1957, Tang Chong Motors was appointed by Nissan/Datsun as its franchise holder, and it sold its first made-in Japanese car locally. Like this, Nissan/Datsun becomes the first Japanese car manufacturer whose cars were imported and sold officially in the country. In the first year of business with no car selling experience in hand, Tan Chong Motors sold 39 cars from their Jalan Ipoh shop in Kuala Lumpur. In the 1960s, with industrialisation in place and government’s policies encouraging export, completely knocked down Nissan kits were exported to Malaysia from Japan. They were assembled at the Capital Motor Assembly pant in Tampoi, Johor. During the 1990s, Tang Chong Motors Assemblies and Malaysian plants were regarded as the 3rd best Nissan foreign assembly plant globally, behind the United States and the United Kingdom. 

    As of quarter one of 2016, Nissan Malaysia surpassed its arch-rival UMW Toyota after years of playing second in the fiddle. It is now the fourth best-selling auto brand in the country. Today, Tan Chong Motors has around 13% market share of non-national car sales. It has two dedicated assembly plants in Serendah and Segambut with sie-shift production capabilities of 18,000 and 20,000 units per annum, respectively. 

    In Malaysia, Nisan offers several popular models in key segments, including the X-Trail, Almera, Serena, Navara, and Leaf. 

    In April 2019, Nissan X-Trail’s facelift was introduced in four variant options, all with EEV-certification and Xtronic CVT with manual mode. In July 2019, the much-awaited Nissan Leaf arrived in Malaysia as a fully-imported model, so it does not qualify for the current EEV scheme. Nissan Malaysia is offering a car subscription service for the Leaf, so do check it out. 

    With services like Hier Purchase and DriveOn by Tan Chong, Nissan Malaysia has made car buying and maintenance easy and hassle-free. Also, with the new car launches, the brand keeps the auto enthusiasts on toes.
