Suzuki Jimny 5 Door

The Suzuki Jimny 5-Door has a functional vibe in the layout of its cabin, with the blacked-out interior having decent space and equipment on offer. However, this cabin can be a squeeze for five full-sized adults and also misses some in-trend comfort and convenience features while having hard plastics all around. 

Behind the modern three-spoke, tilt-adjustable multi-functional steering wheel with audio, Bluetooth, and cruise control switches, the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door has the iconic twin-pod all-analog dials in squared housings with an informative LCD MID in the middle. The centre console has a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system at the top and rounded dials for the automatic climate control at the bottom, with rectangular AC vents between them.

Adding more functionality to the cabin of the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door are the large grab handles. While the front power window switches are placed on the lower centre console below the AC controls, the rear power window switches are placed behind the middle of the front seats. Besides the two cup holders between the front seats, the Jimny misses out on practical storage spaces for small items, further reducing the practicality of the cabin. 

The Suzuki Jimny 5-Door has the same boxy and cutesy design language as its three-door counterpart, which also features a couple of neo-retro elements that make it stand apart from the crowd. The squarish front profile of the Jimny 5-door has a wide grille with five rectangular slats having chrome surrounds within them.

This entire grille housing is finished in a gunmetal grey theme, while also incorporating rounded LED projector headlamps with headlamp washers and tiny rounded amber turn indicators on the corners. With additional rear door panels, the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door looks different from the three-door version, while having the same 15-inch gunmetal grey alloy wheels, clamshell bonnet, and powered rearview mirrors as the latter.

Like the side window and door panels, the rear profile of the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door also has a squared design, with it having a rectangular windscreen and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. The Jimny gets blacked-out off-road spec bumpers, with the front bumper having rounded fog lamps and the rear one having horizontally-laid halogen tail lamps. 

With Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro four-wheel drive system with a low ratio transfer case offered as standard, the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door sits on a ladder-on-frame architecture and gets three-link rigid axles with coil springs at both ends. The AllGrip system has three manually-selectable modes – 2H, 4H, and 4L – for effortless driving on off-road terrains. 

The Suzuki Jimny 5-Door shares its 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine with the three-door Jimny. Here, this engine is available with a 4-speed torque converter as standard, with it claiming a maximum power output of 100 bhp and a maximum torque output of 130 Nm. The engine feels decently refined with adequate performance at lower RPMs, however, it does feel strained while driving at higher speeds. 

The Suzuki Jimny 5-Door is slightly better equipped than its three-door counterpart when it comes to safety. This compact off-roader gets front, side, and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX mounts for child seats, an electronic stability program, hill hold assist, hill descent control, reverse parking sensors, and a camera. However, it misses out on ADAS. 

While it gets additional doors and has grown in size compared to the three-door version, the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door still has the same off-road worthiness and rugged driving feel. At the same time, it also retains the boxy and cutesy stance with compact dimensions, making it a very unique, one-of-its-kind SUV.
