One of the most iconic cars to have ever been made in the world, the Volkswagen Beetle holds the record of being a car with the longest production run. Volkswagen has already ceased the production of Beetle, however, there are still some units remaining of the Beetle available for emerging markets like that of Malaysia. The Volkswagen Beetle is available in one standard variant, which is priced at RM 152,090 and is being offered in two different paint schemes – Pure White and Tornado Red.
Staying to the current times, the Volkswagen Beetle has a very fresh looking inter cabin, which has been tried to make look funky with orange coloured surrounds for the centre console, instrument console, and steering wheel inserts. This does add a nice contrast to the all-black cabin.
The three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel with minimal looking buttons and a simple-looking instrument console do make the driver’s cockpit look sober. The centre console of the dashboard looks wide with a large touchscreen infotainment system taking the centre stage, being flanked with large vertically laid AC vents on its sides, which are slightly rounded from outside.
The lower panel for the centre console is placed separately and gets nice silver surrounds, which does house the automatic climate control panel and a simple-looking transmission lever.
In terms of space, the Volkswagen Beetle feels quite okay, with the rear seats being best suited for kids and people with small heights. The seats themselves are super comfortable and provide good under-thigh support.
The Volkswagen Beetle has an unmistakable design which has turned out to be very iconic in all these years. In this latest iteration, it does look the best with the incorporation of many modern design bits and features, making it look premium as well.
The front fascia of the Volkswagen Beetle has no front grille and gets a curved front bonnet flowing downwards the front bumper. The big round headlamps placed in a sloping manner do get half-round daytime running LEDs and projector bulbs to give it a modern touch. The large trapezoidal housing for the fog lamps and the big air dam in the centre of the bumper make it look aggressive when viewed head-on.
The side profile of the Volkswagen Beetle has got a rounded appeal, with a curved bonnet and curved roofline, the latter of which flows all the way down to the rear bumper, giving it a unique look. The two-door persona of the Beetle looks sporty, and the flared and rounded wheel arches add some muscle to the design.
The Volkswagen Beetle gets C-shaped tail lamps with LED inserts placed on the side edges of the boot, which has a slanted design and gets a large wing spoiler mounted just below the rear windscreen.
The Volkswagen Beetle, despite its big size, has a very agile handling ability, and the suspension setup comprising of Macpherson struts at the front and multi-link setup at the rear provides a good balance of nimble handling along with the light steering setup. The ride quality is on a stiffer edge, though.
The Volkswagen Beetle sources its power from a rather small 1.2-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which is the smallest engine to have ever made its foray in the Beetle. Coupled to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, the engine produces 105 PS of power and 175 Nm of peak torque output, which feels just enough in terms of performance.
The Volkswagen Beetle has a decent equipment list, if not overtly up-to-date, when it comes to safety, such as front and side airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, anti-skid regulator, cruise control, ISOFIX mounts for the child seats and hill start assist.
Apart from the glorious and unmistakable design and stance, the Volkswagen Beetle offers much more in terms of overall driving mannerisms. The iconic hatchback is more of a style statement rather than a daily commuter, with limited rear seat space. However, it manages to grab a lot of attention without costing a bomb.
The Volkswagen Beetle is an automobile icon for a reason. The timeless design of the Beetle is something which has garnered a huge fam base for itself across all the age groups, including me. I was hooked to its design and visual appeal the most, but little did I knew that the Beetle is much, much more than just the
The Beetle was born eight decades ago, and now in 2020, the car still manages to win hearts with its iconic design, both inside and outside. The Beetle has roomy front seats, a good sized boot, usable rear seats, quick gear response, and a frugal 1.2-litre petrol motor. The car has had many useful special editions and has retained the

I was always sure I will love the Volkswagen Beetle even through the last day of ownership. I learned that the Beetle has been discontinued in many countries, but I am glad it did not happen here in Malaysia. It is the cutes car there ever could be in the market. It also has a decently powerful engine in the
