2019 Toyota Prius receives TRD body kits
KUALA LUMPUR: The Toyota Prius facelift, which was launched in Japan last month, has received two new body kits from TRD. Toyota Racing Development, TRD in short, is the Japanese manufacturer’s performance arm responsible to improve the specs figures of Toyota’s street cars. Currently, the TRD add-ons will be only available in Japan.

The TRD kit comes with two different designs. The first one is termed as the ‘Aggressive Style’, which makes the Prius appearance more appealing. The body kit contains a boot spoiler, a prominent front spoiler, a new rear bumper, and side skirts. The new rear bumper gets two different addition - either dual exhausts with a diffuser or a more subdued version.
The second one is named 'Aerodynamics Style'. The body kit comes with optional canards, single rear diffuser with the body-coloured paint job, and a less aggressive front lip.

Buyers will also have the option to add from a range of other equipment like a bumper protector, and garnishes for the tailgate, roof, side mirrors etc. Wheel’s size can also be modified between 15- to 18-inch. Few other available items include struts to control body movement, a member brace set for better rigidity, lock wheel nuts, etc.
The 2019 Toyota Prius facelift comes with a hybrid system under the hood. The standard model gets a 2WD or front-wheel drive system. The system contains a lithium-ion battery, an electric motor, and a 1.8-litre Atkinson-cycle VVT-i petrol engine.

The petrol mill is capable of pumping out up to 97 hp of power and the peak torque is 142 Nm. It is further assisted by an electric motor, which can produce a maximum of 71 hp power along with a peak torque of 163 Nm. The entire hybrid system is capable of churning out up to 123 hp of power.
